Homeschool Philosophy Style Quiz – what is your result and how to apply it

To find out what your homestyle philosophy is or one you want to follow, take this quiz! It will help guide you in the direction of where you want your homeschool style to go.

Let’s take a quiz to find out your homeschool philosophy style

Keep a tally of your answers. There are 15 questions!

  1. Do you like structured lesson plans where it tells you everything to do?
    • a. I prefer a more childled learning.  
    • b.  I like having a clear, structured guide.
    • c. I enjoy incorporating structured plans with flexibility.
    • d. I believe in a high performance, well-organized curriculum.
  2. What do you think about incorporating nature into education?
    • a. If the child shows interest, Nature can be a good curriculum aspect.
    • b. I prefer a traditional classroom setting.
    • c. Nature is a primary source of learning.
    • d. While nature is important, it is secondary to academic studies.
  3. How do you like your curriculum?
    • a.      Diverse and child-led.
    • b.     Pre-planned and comprehensive.
    • c.      Rich in literature (stories that stand the test of time – ex. Beatrix Potter)
    • d.     Focused on classical texts (ex. Iliad and The Odyssey) and critical thinking.
  4. How important are the arts (studying artist of different time periods) and read-alouds in your homeschooling?
    • a. Child explores the arts as they wish.
    • b. It’s included in the curriculum already.

  5. How do you approach your child’s curiosity?

    • d. By teaching the virtues and reasoning.
  10. What’s your opinion on socialization in homeschooling?
    • a. It happens naturally as we interact with people.

    • c. I see how it can have value, but I use other means of testing as well.

  15. How do you feel about grade levels?
    • a.      I focus more on the learning journey than specific grades.
    • b.     They are important to know where the child should be.
    • c.      I keep them in my mind, however, they arent the main goal.
    • d.     They are important to hit benchmarks.

Pam Barnhill is well known in the homeschool community for morning baskets. She is a wealth of knowledge on how to start it, what to put in your basket and how to switch it out. She gives a great explanation of homeschool philosophy here. I love the morning basket website she has free printables and lots of deeper information.

    Very insightful and informative!! It’s nice to understand my style but see how I could pick and choose pieces from other styles that would work well for my family. Thank you!
